CURRICULUM AT A GLANCE
Blouberg International School aims to educate the whole person. Intellectual, physical, social, cultural and moral development is all important if the child is to achieve his or her full potential as a person. We cover aspects of the South African curriculum in terms of languages, History and Geography, thereby taking into consideration the context in which we are living.
The curriculum is based upon the best theory and practice of the UK national curriculum and aims towards enabling all young people to become:
- Successful learners who are multi-skilled, enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
- Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
- Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.
CLASS SIZE AND INDIVIDUALISED LEARNING
Each class will have a teacher responsible for your child’s learning in all curriculum areas and children will interact with specialist teachers. Class size does not normally exceed 22. Lessons are differentiated according to individual students needs and the curriculum targets.
ENTRY ASSESSMENT
The school will request an entry level assessment to be done by the school before any pupil is accepted into a class/year group. The entry level assessments are done from Reception (4-5 years of age) upwards.
We believe that children do better when parents understand more about the learning and teaching that takes place at school and are better able to support learning in the home. It is important to have an understanding of the curriculum your child will follow and the types of assessments and tests they will be expected to take. We therefore include some information on the British curriculum and what it offers.
